Mimecast to increase research, development by 100% in next 12 months

Two senior hires to propel innovation and growth into new markets.

London, 10 Jul 2009

Mimecast, a holistic e-mail management company offering SaaS-based e-mail archiving, continuity, security and policy control, today announced plans to double research and development (R&D) in the next year, and to continue geographic expansion.

This will be supported through two new senior appointments; Mark Hermeling as Development Director, and Mark Reeves as Senior Vice-President of Business Development.

Over the last 18 months, the company expanded worldwide operations in the United States, United Arab Emirates and the Nordic region. During this period of aggressive expansion, the company tripled its global employee base and established itself in new regional data centres. After five successive years of 300% growth, these new appointments are critical to sustaining future growth.

Mark Hermeling joins Mimecast from Accenture's financial services division, where he led the development of data management and business intelligence.

He has more than 14 years of software development and consulting experience across the financial services, energy and telecoms industries. At Mimecast, he will guide the R&D teams to advance the cutting-edge SaaS-based e-mail services, with a focus on information management across the mobile workforce and social media outlets.

Neil Murray, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Mimecast, said: “Last year we doubled the size of our R&D team and we plan on doing so once again by next summer. With Hermeling's proven track record in innovation and Reeves' experience in maximising international sales, we will be able to deliver the benefits of unified e-mail management to more markets in a shorter timeframe.”

Mark Reeves joins Mimecast from global interactive classrooms provider, Promethean, where he was Senior Vice-President of International Development.

Prior to this he worked for RSA Security as Vice-President of their international business. He has over 20 years' experience in direct and indirect sales in the software and security marketplace. At Mimecast, he is charged with accelerating the company's international growth and channel development and moving the company towards a completely indirect sales model.

Reeves said: “Mimecast is a very entrepreneurial company that has already proven itself in the UK, US and South Africa. Most companies that successfully expand across the globe do so through a channel model, because it is less resource intensive and therefore more cost-effective. My main goal will be finding the right partners, those that see how SaaS services can be strategic for their business and that know how to help end-users select the best model for their needs.”
