Sony Ericsson will showcase the first handsets from Sony at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), in Las Vegas, this month.

This is according to Colin Williamson, marketing manager at Sony Ericsson SA.

These include the Xperia ion, Xperia S, Xperia acro HD, and the Xperia NX. However, while the Xperia S will be released globally, the Xperia ion will be available exclusively through AT&T in the US, and the Xperia acro HD and Xperia NX have been made specifically for the Japanese market.

The Sony Xperia S will run on Android platform 2.3, and will be upgraded to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter of 2012. The smartphone features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, HD resolution screen, and a 12MP camera. The Xperia S is also near field communication (NFC)-enabled.

Sony Ericsson also unveiled a number of Android accessories, including Xperia Smart Tags, Smart Wireless Headset pro, SmartWatch and SmartDock for Xperia ion.

Xperia Smart Tags are small NFC-enabled tokens that are used to run preconfigured and personalised settings when users swipe an NFC-enabled Android smartphone against them. For example, swiping the phone against a Smart Tag with a preconfigured GPS application will run that application on the phone.

Smart Wireless Headset pro is a Bluetooth stereo headset that also works as a standalone MP3 player and radio. SmartWatch is a separate micro display for Android that is mounted on a strap and can be worn as a watch. The display lets users wirelessly access calls, messages and applications.

Finally, SmartDock is an HDMI dock that lets users connect the Xperia ion to a USB keyboard, mouse and big-screen TV.

The Xperia S will be available to consumers globally from the first quarter of 2012.
