Datacentrix drives development within Eastern Cape with SME partner

Johannesburg, 26 Jan 2005

IT infrastructure and solutions provider, Datacentrix, and SME partner, Amava Information Technologies, have rolled out approximately 30 servers and storage area network (SAN) solutions for the IT backbone of the office of the premier in the Eastern Cape.

The project is part of a larger contract with the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) aimed at strengthening SA`s information communications sector by developing a strong infrastructure base. It is also in line with SITA`s strategy to assist in driving business into the regions using black-empowered SME companies.

The infrastructure backbone will allow the premier`s office, the central controlling provincial government department, access to information generated by the smaller departments and local municipalities across the Eastern Cape.

Amava Information Technologies is one of Datacentrix`s maintenance representatives in the Eastern Cape and has been involved in a number of projects with the company within this region, including the office of the premier roll-out. The company is a niche technology solutions provider to the local market, with a strong focus on organisation-wide application implementation and systems support.

"Amava is handling the maintenance, support and skills transfer around the office of the premier project. The organisation`s high skills level and strong BEE profile make it the ideal SME partner to assist in projects of this scale. Amava also boasts a national footprint with very strong regional presence in certain geographical areas," says Thapelo Rapetswa, senior account manager at Datacentrix.

Datacentrix and Amava have collaborated since 1997, following the kick-off of Datacentrix`s SME programme the year before.

"For this implementation, Amava has played an account management role in the Eastern Cape as well as a promoter of Datacentrix`s solutions within the region," Rapetswa adds.

According to Siva Govender, CEO of Amava Information Technologies, the main benefit of this type of partnership is the skills transfer. "By gaining skills from Datacentrix, Amava is in the position to transfer this knowledge to customers, making us a critical link within the overall value chain.

"Our involvement with Datacentrix has also brought the obvious financial benefits and exposure. The organisation has assisted us greatly in breaking into the government market."
