Mobile accounts for 10% of Web traffic

Mobile now accounts for 10% of all Internet usage worldwide, after the rise in demand for smartphones and tablets saw the mobile Web more than double over the last 18 months, according to stats by Pingdom, The Next Web reports.

Asia is the region where mobile is most active, accounting for almost 18% of total net usage, but a sizeable increase in mobile-based surfing is also visible in Europe and Africa.

Mobile Web is also booming in Africa, where Zimbabwe and Nigeria lead the world with 58.06% and 57.89%, respectively, of total Web traffic coming from mobile devices, Into Mobile states.

Worldwide, mobile Web traffic has jumped 163% and now accounts for 10% of total Web traffic. Smartphones are gaining in popularity, and as a result, mobile Web traffic is expected to jump exponentially in the next few years.

In India and Uzbekistan, mobile Web traffic is over 40% of all Web traffic, Mobile Burn says.

Meanwhile, the US only has 8.61% of its Web traffic coming from mobile devices. In developing countries, the only Web access that many have is through their mobile devices, and many residents don't own desktop or laptop computers, or there isn't a reliable land-based Internet service available to them.
