Presstek offers UV

Presstek will introduce a UV printing option for the Presstek 52DI and 34DI digital offset presses at Drupa, says Graphic Repro.

"Printing with UV waterless inks on Presstek's DI presses expands Presstek's opportunity to provide the highest quality lowest cost four-colour offset solution for a wider range of markets including consumer packaging, point-of-purchase and direct mail," said Klaus Schleicher, Presstek group product director, Digital Printing Business Unit.

Presstek DI presses are designed to produce fast turnaround short-run, high quality colour work on a wide range of substrates.

Polaroids digital, still instant

According to company officials, the increased popularity of digital photography led Polaroid to plan for the exit of traditional instant film in all formats and sizes, states LetsGoDigital.

Although the company will halt production this year, instant film is expected to be available into 2009.

More than a decade in the making, the ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology originally hatched within the walls of Polaroid, before spinning out as a separate company. As the company's namesake innovation reaches the digital age, it's only fitting that Polaroid will pioneer this inkless printing technology through its new digital instant printer.

Ota takes the reins

Masahiro Ota is the new president and CEO for Fujifilm Graphic Systems USA, says American Printer.

Ota replaces Hiro Tada, who has taken a new position as president and CEO with Fujifilm's Medical Imaging Division.

Ota joined Fujifilm in 1980 and most recently was president of Fujifilm Starlight Graphic Systems, created out of a partnership with the China Academy of Printing Technology.
