Giving 10 charities an online presence

Johannesburg, 29 Jun 2020

Every year, xneelo proudly sponsors the WordPress do_action hackathon, a community-organised event that focuses on giving charities an online presence, free of charge. These fully functional WordPress Web sites offer the selected charities well-deserved online exposure, making donations easier and more accessible.

Normally, the event would take place over one day at a designated venue. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, this year’s do_action event was 100% remote and online, taking place over two weeks, from 1-14 June 2020. During the event, the South African WordPress community (made up of developers, designers and Web site builders) teamed up with additional volunteers to build state-of-the-art Web sites. These volunteers included social media managers, project managers, designers, developers and quality assurance testers.

During the duration of the event, the charity organisations received WordPress training to ensure they’re able to manage their custom site after the event. The selection of charities that took part ranges from children to animals, healthcare and education.

The list of charities, chosen by a committee of WordPress volunteers, are:

  • Friends of K9 Trust
  • Girls Matter
  • Have a Heart Equine Sanctuary
  • The Power of One
  • African Book Trust
  • Differently Abled Cricket Club
  • Khethiwe Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Disabilities
  • Nurturing Orphans of AIDS for Humanity (NOAH)
  • Toy Library Association South Africa
  • Outliers

The hosting of these 10 Web sites is proudly sponsored by xneelo.
