Fujitsu Siemens Computers presents PRIMERGY servers for Windows Server 2008

Upcoming virtualisation technologies reduce server requirements, saving cost and energy

Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2008

At today's launch of Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008, Fujitsu Siemens Computers presented its range of PRIMERGY servers, ideally positioned to support the new products.

Windows Server 2008 technologies enable companies to better utilise server resources, enabling savings on operational as well as energy costs.

According to Fujitsu Siemens Computers, an advantage of the upcoming virtual server environment is that IT departments gain flexibility because services and applications can be moved on the fly between physical host servers, thereby improving business agility.

"Microsoft and Fujitsu Siemens Computers are working closely together to offer leading-edge technology to our customers," said Bill Laing, general manager, Windows Server at Microsoft Corp. "Running Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 on PRIMERGY servers provides a wide range of advantages and savings to our enterprise customers."

Monique de Klerk, Portfolio Manager Dynamic Data Centre at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, says: "Embedded in our Dynamic Data Centre Strategy, the new PRIMERGY Server together with the new Windows Server 2008 will enable higher efficiency, better quality of service and increased agility of IT operations."

The new PRIMERGY RX600 S4, RX300 S4, TX300 S4, RX200 S4, TX200 S4, RX100 S5, TX150 S6 and TX120 S1 are the most expandable and energy-saving industry standard servers on the market. All feature new quad-core processors and have remarkable performance power and storage capacities, while additional PCI slots are available to further extend system utilisation levels. Standardised system administration at SAS-RAID level ensures consistency in protecting live server data. The new quad-core processors in the PRIMERGY servers reduce the power consumed by each processor, while the standard 2.5-inch SAS hard disks use 20% less energy than normal 3.5-inch hard disks.

The PRIMERGY TX120 is the world's quietest and smallest floor-standing server, and is also the least energy-consuming, and therefore meets the special server requirements of small companies and branch offices, which may not have a dedicated server room: the TX120 is designed to stand in a corner of an open office, as it does not use much power or need much space, emits little noise and hardly produces any heat.
