The hardware sector snares a rare moment in the spotlight in this week's National Tender Bulletin. This public sector focus on infrastructure investment pays particular attention to end-user computer requirements. While tablet adoption has made headway in the corporate world, this issue of the bulletin contains no requests for the device.
The services sector benefits from the hardware push as most of this week's opportunities revolve around specification add-ons for support and maintenance.
The software sector, on the other hand, falls to the bottom of the class; largely attracting requests for licensing renewals or targeted applications.
The State Information Technology Agency delivers a significant contribution to the current issue, advertising three new requests. SITA also dominates the results section with the announcement of four awards.
While it is encouraging to see that SITA's procurement process is delivering results, it's worth noting that three of the tenders have been under adjudication since 2018. It also says it has awarded all four contracts on a “quotation basis”. Such arrangements typically apply when products are supplied on an 'as and when required' basis. Nevertheless, two of the awarded tenders are for specified projects. Ideally, the costs should be agreed upon before a contract is signed.
