T-Systems SA managing director Dineo Molefe is leaving the company to take over as MTN SA’s new chief financial officer.

MTN Group announced today that Molefe will assume her duties with the telco in December.

Molefe was appointed MD of the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary in 2018, taking over from Gert Schoonbee, who had served as MD of T-Systems' local operations for six years.

Prior to her appointment as MD of T-Systems, she held the position of CFO with the company for two years.

Announcing Molefe’s appointment, MTN Group CEO and president Ralph Mupita said: “We welcome Dineo to MTN South Africa, to which she brings a wealth of experience, having held a number of executive positions in the ICT, investment management and energy sectors.”

The incoming MTN SA CFO previously held senior roles at Vodacom, Thebe Investments and the Industrial Development Corporation.

Molefe has also been credited for steadying the ship at T-Systems in the last few years, when the company was under strain.

She also received praise for transforming the business to drive growth and stability amid a challenging marketplace and a changing client base.

When she took over in 2018, the company was still embroiled in the infamous #GuptaLeaks scandal.

It was alleged in 2016 that T-Systems’ supplier development partner Sechaba Computer Services had paid kickback money to Homix, a Gupta-linked letterbox company exposed in 2015 in a kickback scandal involving Neotel.

Last year, Molefe oversaw the relocation of T-Systems from its massive Midrand complex to WeWork, a co-working office space based in Rosebank, as the company embarked on job cuts.
