The MTN SA Foundation − in partnership with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) − has presented laptops, backpacks and data connectivity to the top-performing matriculants.
During the recent matric results announcement, basic education minister Angie Motshekga revealed that out of the almost 920 634 learners who wrote matric, the class of 2022 achieved an overall pass rate of 80.1% − a 3.75% improvement from the previous year’s results.
Considering the many challenges that learners face, the MTN SA Foundation says it believes matric learners of the class of 2022 achieved an incredible feat.
During the prize-giving ceremony, attended by government officials at the Mosaiek Lifestyle Centre last week, the 35 top national achievers were recognised and rewarded with resources.

“Through our e-learning platform, the MTN Online School, we help learners access educational resources remotely, and empower teachers to create an interactive learning experience for students. Our partnership with the DBE has helped us equip more learners with the necessary tools to upskill them for a digital future.”
The MTN SA Foundation has a long-standing partnership with the DBE in supporting learning and teaching in schools through various education initiatives. In 2020, the foundation committed to a three-year sponsorship of the Ministerial National Senior Certificate announcement prioritised by the DBE.
Through the ICT interventions, the MTN SA Foundation says it hopes to improve the quality of teaching and learning, and encourage learners to take up science, technology, engineering and math subjects at school and pursue careers in ICT.
In August, the MTN SA Foundation unveiled a multimedia centre at the Naga Lipudi Career, Science and Resource Centre in Mogale City, to empower learners with digital skills.
The 20-seat centre is equipped with desktops, MTN WiFi connectivity for 24 months, an interactive white board and laser printer.
