Cell C has appointed Zafar Mahomed as its new CFO. He fills the role after former CFO Tyrone Soondarjee left the company in May, after less than a year in the job.

When Soondarjee left, Cell C said chief strategy officer Robert Pasley and COO Douglas Craigie Stevenson would jointly oversee the CFO function. Mahomed will permanently take over the role at the beginning of December 2018.

Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos says Mahomed "brings extensive financial, management and business experience to the role, and we look forward to adding his expertise to Cell C's leadership team".

Mahomed has over 20 years of finance and business experience, having worked in several multinational and listed organisations from a cross-section of industries, including manufacturing, retail, financial services, real estate, medical, hospitality, mining and FMCG.

Before joining Cell C, Mahomed was CFO for McDonald's SA. His prior roles include CFO at Ellerine Holdings, financial director at Johnson & Johnson, and several senior roles at Tongaat Hulett. He has also held various directorships.

"He has broad strategic insight, which I am confident will be put to great use in the next phase of our journey as a business. His passion for mentorship and coaching is also a positive skill we welcome, and I know that those who will work closely with him will value the chance to learn and grow from his experience," adds Dos Santos.

Mahomed holds a master's degree in business leadership from UNISA and is a qualified chartered accountant. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Natal, and an honour's degree in accounting from UNISA.

"Telecommunications is a fast-paced and exciting industry and I look forward to joining the team at Cell C and putting my skills to work in such a vibrant and interesting business," adds Mahomed.
