New ministers and deputy ministers appointed by president Jacob Zuma in a Cabinet reshuffle this week, were sworn in to office yesterday.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in Tuynhuys, Cape Town.

Constitutional Court Judge Justice Zak Yacoob presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Thembelani Nxesi as minister for public works; Dina Pule as communications minister; and Lechesa Tsenoli as deputy minister for rural development and land reform.

The presidency says only new members of the national executive and new deputy ministers, who are taking the oath for the first time, are required to be sworn in, as there is no need for those who had already taken the oath of office in other portfolios to do it again.

New co-operative governance and traditional affairs minister Richard Baloyi; former communications minister and new public service and administration minister Roy Padayachie; and deputy ministers Obed Bapela and Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu have already taken the oath of office.

New deputy minister of communications Thembisa Stella Ndabeni will be sworn in at a later stage, as she is out of the country on state business.
