SDD fuels SA backup market with trial Veritas Software

Johannesburg, 10 Nov 2000

Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) is shipping a 30-day trial version of Veritas Backup Exec with every Microsoft Open License Program server deal in a bid to highlight the importance of backing up data and to show how easy and hands-free it has become.

"Companies are growing more dependent on the data in their computer systems, yet there's still a high proportion, especially in the SME sector, who don't do back-ups on a regular basis - if at all," says Libe Monyane, software product manager at SDD. "Those that do have some sort of back-up software, complain that they don't have time or simply forget to do it. With Veritas Backup, the world's number one industry standard backup solution, we're hoping to show just how hassle-free backing up can be. It does everything for you automatically."

Monyane is convinced that once users try out Veritas Backup, they'll not want to do without it and he urges resellers to take advantage of this added value sell-on opportunity.

"It's important to explain to users just how critical it has become to protect the mission critical information in today's Windows NT and Windows 2000 environments," he says. "These environments need a backup solution that is reliable and scalable to support the needs of any type network.

Protecting data should be as easy as creating the data." Backup Exec provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface, along with many wizards to walk any level user through the tasks of setting up configuring backup policies and schedules. Built in virus scanning and elimination ensures that only virus-free files are backed up and secured. With Backup Exec's advanced device and media management capabilities, it is very easy to configure storage devices and efficiently manage and maximise the use of stored information. Backup Exec for Windows NT/Windows 2000, which was the first Microsoft Certified backup application for Windows 2000, is the only solution that reads and writes to the Microsoft backup utility. Other exclusive features include device sharing among both Windows NT and Novell NetWare, the most granular Microsoft Exchange backup and recovery, centralised administration and policy management of multiple Backup Exec servers. It is also the only Windows NT and Windows 2000 disaster recovery option that restores servers to the most recent backup and is the first to provide online database protection for Microsoft Exchange 2000 and SQL Server 2000. "It's a good time to start promoting Veritas Backup because the approaching holiday season is a time when companies close down or key staff are away and their systems are left unattended and unprotected for long periods. It's a time when automatic back-up become essential," concludes Monyane.
