A major fibre break caused Cell C's services to go down this morning, says the operator.

Mobile operator Cell C says full service to its network was restored at noon today, after confirming earlier that its network had fallen over this morning, affecting the making and receiving of calls, as well as SMS services.

According to the company, the problem was caused by a major fibre break that affected its services.

"Considering the magnitude of the problem, the team resolved it quickly. Thank you to our customers for their patience and we apologise again for the inconvenience," Cell C says in a statement.

Earlier today, the mobile operator explained its technicians had identified the problem affecting call set-up on its network, explaining traffic management between its two major data centres was affected.

This followed complaints by Cell C users, who this morning took to social media to complain that the mobile service provider's services had become unavailable.
