ISACA SA chapter hosts inaugural COBIT 2019 Conference

Johannesburg, 11 Mar 2019

The inaugural COBIT 2019 Conference was held at the Premier Hotel, in Johannesburg, on 11 March. The theme was "Leading the Way" and 30 people attended. The event was opened with a welcome address by the ISACA SA Chapter's president, Arlene-Lynn Volmink. (ISACA stands for Information Systems Audit and Control Association. COBIT is its good-practice framework.)

The conference included a mix of thought leadership sessions, which focused on practical application. There was an opportunity for dialogue through an exciting panel discussion. This platform also created the opportunity for attendees to connect with experts, thought leaders and fellow information systems, governance and business professionals.

Audience members had much to gain from the knowledge and insights of local industry experts. The speakers were Gary Hardy (managing director: IT Winners), Makabongwe Siziba (chief information officer: KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development) and Winston Hayden, an independent adviser and consultant).

The programme featured a panel discussion on: "Where to from here with COBIT 2019" that was moderated by Jerall Toi (ISACA SA Chapter: Academic Relations and Membership) and an interactive session on: "COBIT 2019: What does this mean for in-progress COBIT 5 implementations". The latter was facilitated by Carolynn Chambers (executive director: Candor Governance) and Lucas Mogashoa (consultant: Lucas Mogashoa Consulting).

The conference was concluded with closing remarks by the ISACA South Africa Chapter's vice-president, Kenneth Palliam. Special thanks were extended to Mobius Consulting as the sole conference sponsor.
