Cabinet has approved the appointment of Melanie Rambally as the new chief financial officer (CFO) of signal distributor Sentech.

Rambally’s appointment was announced during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Friday.

A Cabinet statement, which also notes the appointment of the new CEO of the South African Post Office, Nomkhita Mona, indicates all appointments are subject to the verification of qualifications and the relevant clearance.

Rambally’s new position was previously held by Siphamandla Mthethwa, who served in the position from December 2016 and April 2020. Prior Mthethwa, the position was briefly held by Clarinda Simpson.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Rambally is a chartered accountant by profession. She holds a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and has an accounting science honours degree from the University of South Africa.

She has held the position of CFO at Durban International Convention Centre for the past seven years, and was previously the CFO of Pietermaritzburg-based company Prilla.

Sentech is a state-owned enterprise (SOE) operating in the broadcasting signal distribution and telecommunications sectors and reporting to the minister of communications and digital technologies, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.

It provides broadcast transmission services to SABC, eTV, MNet, community broadcasters and over 150 radio stations countrywide on a daily basis. Its infrastructure and data communications platforms also provide services to SA's telecoms sector and mobile providers.

The SOE is mandated by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies to drive the migration of the country's broadcasting services from analogue to digital.
