Trace Mobile, in partnership with logistics company Pargo, has unveiled a system that allows users to order and self-RICA SIM cards via its app.

Established in 2015, Trace Mobile defines itself as a lifestyle mobile network dedicated to the youth, offering Afro-urban content such as music and free lifestyle and entertainment news.

Introducing this system is part of overcoming the “tedious RICA process”, says Trace Mobile.

Through the Trace Mobile app, which is available for download from the Google Play Store and App Store, users will need to follow three steps to order, self-RICA and collect their SIM card.

According to Trace Mobile, the user’s profile picture, identity number, surname and address are verified against each other, using facial and optical character recognition technologies that comply with the POPI and RICA Acts to protect the subscribers’ personal information.

Once the user has completed the RICA process via the app, the SIM may be collected at over 560 Clicks stores countrywide.

“As a true lifestyle mobile network, we add value to our subscribers through new technology and we offer a convenient alternative to home delivery, as well as a self-RICA option with total autonomy. Innovation is a key success factor for both Trace and Pargo and it is great to be able to join forces to disrupt the industry,” says Prescillia Avenel-Delpha, VP for mobile and marketing at Trace.

Avenel-Delpha adds: “We are very proud of launching the one-of-a-kind digital distribution in partnership with Pargo that challenges the old way of doing things. This is actually a first step towards the expansion of the Trace Mobile distribution footprint in SA, as we consider rolling out quickly with other pickup points in the near future, such as the Spar stores.”
