New Fujitsu PRIMERGY Server demonstrates world record performance in independent benchmarks

Munich, 11 Nov 2020

The recently launched new-generation FUJITSU Server PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 has set new world records for performance. Its unmatched processing power is verified both for demanding in-memory environments with the SAP BW edition for SAP HANA benchmark[1] and for large-scale virtual infrastructures with VMware’s VMmark benchmark[2].

In a SAP standard application benchmark using SAP HANA databases and processing 7.8 billion initial records, the PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 achieved top results across the board for the fastest data load, the highest number of query executions per hour, and the shortest runtime for complex query phases. This benchmark outcome validates the server’s outstanding efficiency when running data-intensive in-memory and analytics workloads.

The quad-socket server also attained the world-record scores in VMware’s VMmark virtualisation benchmark out of all matched-pair four-socket server results. The PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 achieved the top VMmark 3.x results among all other matched-pair 4-socket servers as of 22 October 2020. Along with doubled Intel Ultra Path Interconnect (UPI) connectivity, this makes the PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 the perfect basis for large-scale virtualisation environments, where performance, reliability and efficiency are essential.

High-performance server equipped with the latest security technology

The Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 is a 3U quad-socket server that harnesses the AI acceleration features of new, third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel Optane persistent memory technology. Completely redesigned, it delivers exceptional performance and simple administration in a cost-effective form factor, allowing organisations to speed up even the most demanding applications, derive maximum value from their data, and accelerate their business transformation.

To address the rise in cyber attacks, which have seen an increase during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fujitsu has integrated Intel Platform Firmware Resilience (PFR) into the PRIMERGY RX4770 M6. PFR helps to protect platform firmware, detect firmware corruption, and restore the server to its last-known good state if malware is detected – ensuring the server itself becomes part of an organisation’s strong security defence.

Benchmark details

[1]SAP standard application benchmarks set an industry gold standard that helps customers and partners find the appropriate hardware configuration for their IT solutions by testing the hardware and software performance of SAP applications and components. VMmark is a recognised tool used to measure the performance, scalability, and power consumption of virtualisation platforms. It allows the accurate and reliable benchmarking of virtual data centre performance and power consumption and enables the comparison of different virtualisation platforms.

The SAP BW edition for SAP HANA standard application benchmark version 3 was performed on October 27, 2020, by Fujitsu in Kawasaki, Japan, with 7,800,000,000 initial records, and certified by SAP on behalf of the SAP Benchmark Council on October 28, 2020. It was awarded certification number 2020040. The benchmark configuration included a Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 with four Intel Xeon Platinum 8380HL processors, 1,536 GB DRAM and 3,072 GB Persistent Memory, SAP NetWeaver 7.50, SAP HANA 2.0, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15.

[2]The VMware VMmark V3 benchmark in VMmark V3.1 was performed on October 22, 2020, with two PRIMERGY RX4770 M6 systems in a matched pair configuration. Each system was configured with Intel Xeon Platinum 8380HL processors and used the VMware ESXi 7.0 U1 Hypervisor. Under official test conditions measured in the PRIMERGY Performance Lab in Kawasaki, Japan, this configuration achieved a VMmark V3 score of 19.72@20 tiles (Performance Only), 6.3410@20 tiles (Server Power-Performance), and 3.7609@20 tiles (Server and Storage Power-Performance).
