Business gains from centralised PMO

Organisations with a centralised project portfolio management office (PMO) tasked with helping drive documentation, guidance and metrics about the execution of scheduled projects see it as a strategic enabler of business change, new research confirmed, states CBR Online.

In a survey carried out for CA across 14 countries in EMEA, businesses that operate with a centrally-managed PMO were found to experience a higher degree of project maturity in terms of people, processes, technology and financial management.

According to Gartner this is said to accelerate the realisation of business value.

PM apps ease recession pressures

These are brutal economic times, but for CIOs feeling the pressure from all sides to do more with less, this could be the perfect opportunity to make the pitch for one more purchase: an enterprise project management (EPM) tool, says Network World.

EPM software products typically help organisations collect and make sense of data to facilitate governance and assessment of the status of projects in the enterprise.

These products can also assist a company's PMO, not only to plan and track existing sets of projects, but also create a portfolio of existing and future projects categorised by criteria such as budget size, schedule, or business line.

University announces online PM training

Boston University Corporate Education Centre has put together a very comprehensive set of course options to meet the needs of individuals seeking online project management training, reports PR.com.

One can complete courses in the nine knowledge areas of PMI's PMBOK Guide to receive a project management certificate, or courses can be taken individually from these knowledge areas to enhance specific skills and prepare for the PMP exams.

Commenting on Boston University Corporate Education Centre's new and improved project management online programmes, John Bonanno, president, said, “We have taken great care in the development of our programmes to assure that students get the project management training they need, when they need it.”
