White paper: Highly available edge computing platforms accelerate industrial automation

Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2019

Digital transformation (DX) – a technology-enabled business strategy – enables firms to increase competitive differentiation via products and services that provide a precise, personalised, instantaneous and simple customer experience.

Firms embark on DX by embracing a data-driven, analytics-first approach to improve business processes and increase operational efficiencies, better understand customer behaviour and preferences; build deeper customer, supplier, and/or partner relationships; and, more importantly, be prudent about how they gain insight from the data they collect.

Collectively, this results in lower operational costs and higher revenue. Customers can be consumers or businesses. In other words, DX initiatives can be business to business (B2B) or business to consumer (B2C). Key DX initiatives such as the IOT and industrial automation enable firms to obtain valuable insights from data collected via networks of connected devices (beyond computers, laptops, smartphones and industrial robots). These initiatives enable firms to digitise and better control the "things" they rely on to conduct business.
