Hewlett-Packard (HP) is awarding six educational institutions in SA grants worth $100 000 (R802 000) each.

The six local schools are among the 50 institutions from the EMEA region chosen by HP to receive grants, as part of its Innovation in Education grant initiative, which began this year.

These institutions will each receive a mobile technology solution, such as tablet PCs, laptops, printers and access points, and a cash donation. They will also be invited to join a global network of educators to share ideas and best practices on online learning, virtual worlds and simulation ideas.

HP`s grant initiative sees tertiary institutes and secondary schools, in EMEA, submit proposals for their most innovative teaching and learning projects.

An HP statement says the institutions chosen were those that best integrated technology in teaching and learning, and also fostered innovation in learning.

"Innovation in education is vital to developing the next generation of hi-tech innovators. Whenever possible, we feature HP technology in ways that support pioneering teaching and learning practices, especially to enhance achievements in math and science, or other subjects essential to student success in IT careers," says HP SA acting MD Gois Fouche.
