Mavenir invests in LTE
Convergence specialist Mavenir Systems has raised $40 million in its fifth round of funding and plans to acquire mobile messaging firm Airwide Solutions for an undisclosed amount, reports Light Reading.
Biz Journals says Mavenir has raised a total of $105 million since October 2005.
Mavenir's technology allows any type of entertainment or communication service to be delivered over any type of network, regardless of the type of device a consumer uses to receive that service.
According to Fierce Broadband Wireless, the company is banking on becoming a premier solutions provider for long-term evolution (LTE) operators.
The Airwide acquisition positions Mavenir to roll out converged voice, video and messaging services over LTE.
In February, Mavenir made a deal with MetroPCS to deliver a converged messaging solution on its LTE network; which allows subscribers to exchange multimedia and text messages with other MetroPCS subscribers and on other carrier networks.
