When the pandemic hit, followed by lockdowns, Dell Technologies South Africa had to reimagine the way it hosts its local customer and partner forums.

Jason Jenkinson, Country Marketing Manager at Dell Technologies South Africa, says the Dell Technologies team foresaw that the pandemic would drive long-lasting change in how things were done. So the team decided to convert part of its training centre in Bryanston into a broadcast quality studio, to take engagement with stakeholders to a professional level. The studio includes a broadcast-style talk set, enhanced by a large screen for viewers to comment and pose questions.

“It has proven to be a fruitful investment, and now we use it all the time to film demos, podcasts and virtual events,” says Jenkinson.

This agile move proves the point that business agility is about more than ‘making do’ – it’s about adapting to the change and using technology to improve business processes and operations, Dell Technologies believes.

The new-look virtual TechBytes events are proving hugely popular with participants, many of whom have logged in to participate in the series so far. Jenkinson says: “We’re constantly trying to enhance the customer experience, taking these virtual events far beyond a standard video conference and making them as engaging and interesting as possible.” Up to 500 participants register for each event to hear presentations led by top thought leaders and participate in lively debates. Dell Technologies’ marketing team has even brought the ever-popular event goodie bag into the equation – sending event-themed gifts to the first 200 people to register. “It’s all built around delivering a better and customised event experience,” he adds.

The team’s own agility underlines the Business Agility theme of its upcoming virtual TechBytes event. The Dell Technologies TechByte Business Agility online event, to be held on 30 September 2020, will look at how agile, innovation-led companies have thrived in the face of change, what true business agility should deliver, and how to achieve it.

Jenkinson says: “For agility, a lot of variables need to be considered – and delivering the highest levels of customer satisfaction are key. The platforms you put in place must cater for customer expectations, and you also need to ensure that employees’ expectations are addressed. You need to look at technologies – particularly emerging technologies – to drive agility and innovation and meet expectations.”

The Business Agility event theme aligns with Dell Technologies’ international events, which address the top priorities and challenges facing businesses around the world. “We’re seeing the challenge of achieving true business agility is a global trend,” says Jenkinson.

The Dell Technologies TechByte Business Agility online event will feature well-known broadcasters Jeremy Maggs and Aki Anastasiou and Dell Technologies experts discussing agile business trends in South Africa, showcasing agility success stories in leading enterprises, and outlining how to build the flexible foundation for future resilience.
