Serena acquires Projity

Serena Software has acquired Projity, maker of an open-source project management solution as well as a software-as-a-service project management offering, says eWeek.

"We acquired Projity to give us an on-demand project management offering along with the free desktop project management offering," said Rene Bonvanie, senior vice-president of global marketing, partnerships and online services for Serena.

Projity's free, open-source desktop project management software is called OpenProj, and it is available under the Common Public Attribution License for individual project managers to download free of charge. OpenProj offers similar functionality as Microsoft Project, with support for multiple platforms.

MGM Mirage seeks to expand IT project management office

Myrna Soto, chief information security officer and vice president of IT governance at the MGM Mirage, wants to expand the IT project management office (PMO) into an enterprise project management office that would oversee all manner of projects for the company, reports NetworkWorld.

Soto says her goal has always been to expand the IT PMO into an enterprise PMO and to have all projects and portfolios funneled through the enterprise.

"Any organisation that is making significant investments is in need of watching and monitoring their investments to make sure they're getting the right return and utilising their resources as best they can," she says.

Onepoint unveils SaaS product line

Onepoint Software, a European vendor for commercial open source project and portfolio management solutions, has unveiled its new software release 8.1; in addition it will release its upcoming SaaS product line at the end of October, states Open PR.

The new SaaS product will be called Onepoint Project On Demand and will be hosted by IBM in their new high-end data centre near Frankfurt, Germany.

Onepoint Project provides a new approach to integrated project planning, monitoring and controlling.
