Correctly responding to threats in a timely manner makes all the difference for a business's security posture, says DRS.

Security solutions provider DRS says a key technical resource has qualified as a Checkpoint Security Master, one of only two in SA, and five in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

DRS says it would not publicise his name due to the highly sensitive nature of the work he does.

Robert Brown, CEO at DRS, says the Check Point Certified Security Master is Check Point's most advanced technical certification for troubleshooting security problems.

"The programme content contains in-depth and hands-on commands aimed at resolving some of the most complex challenges that are faced by Check Point security engineers today."

Correctly responding to threats in a timely manner makes all the difference for a business's security posture, says Brown.

Skills possessed by a Check Point Master can reduce the amount of service requests escalated to the vendor, as the engineer will be able to perform in-depth debugs among other things, he adds.

Brown points out this results in a quicker identification of issues and a speedier resolution. The ability to skip wait times to reach the correct support engineer when the need arises, is a definite plus, he adds.

"Having the ability to provide world-class support for Check Point technologies is a priority for partners such as DRS. Having a Check Point Master Technician helps us achieve that goal. A Check Point Master uses advanced commands to troubleshoot and configure Check Point security systems, and is able to do things like locate the source of encryption failures."

Brown says the certification isn't an easy one to achieve.

"To possess the skills, technicians need to have a clear understanding of Check Point technologies and architecture.

"Previous hands-on experience in troubleshooting misconfigurations and other technical gremlins is an absolute necessity. Advanced troubleshooting or getting under the hood is the ethos of this qualification."
