Zetta boosts online backup service

Zetta.net has unveiled a new version of its cloud-based online backup and data recovery DataProtect service, Network Computing reports.

Version 3.0 now gives users the ability to protect SQL and Windows System State files. It will also soon offer the ability to protect Microsoft Exchange files, as well as continue to provide support for unstructured data files, VMware and data restore to dissimilar hardware.

Other new features in this release include the ability to support the Mac platform, as well as the Windows and multiple Linux platforms that were already supported, and data transfer speeds up to 10 times faster using features such as a local metadata cache, deduplication and advanced network data compression.

Advanced security, high redundancy and a high-performance architecture are among the features Zetta is highlighting in the latest edition of the platform, eWeek writes.

“Fast, uninterrupted access to data is increasingly important to the livelihood of businesses today. When a system failure occurs, having to wait for data access and recovery for any period of time is just painful,” says James Bagley, senior analyst with storage industry research firm Storage Strategies Now.

“Zetta's cloud-based backup and disaster recovery solution is uniquely based on an extremely efficient protocol that enables distinct throughput advantages, and as a result, users have immediate access to their data whenever there may be a problem.”
