Far South Networks' telecoms products provide connectivity, enhanced services to Western Province Blood Transfusion Service

Cape Town, 05 May 2015

Far South Networks, a leading supplier of IP PBX and SIP Gateway products, in association with Vox Telecom, an end-to-end ICT technology partner, have together successfully met the telephony requirements of the Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS).

WPBTS headquarters is located in Pinelands, Cape Town, with a further 10 offices in the Western Cape region. A priority service for WPBTS is clear and reliable communication between all offices. An incorrect allocation of blood stock is not only a waste of a valuable resource, but may also cost lives. A reduction of call costs was another significant priority.

Fact sheet
Solution: VOIP solution
Industry: Healthcare
Provider: Far South Networks
User: Western Province Blood Transfusion Service

WPBTS had a legacy TDM-based PBX system at its Pinelands headquarters and various disparate PBX systems in its other branch offices. The decision was made to consolidate all the disparate PBX systems installed across its offices into a single, manageable solution that gave them added functionality and growth.

Within all the WPBTS offices, Far South Networks' PBX equipment was able to support legacy analogue, basic and primary rate ISDN lines, as well as SIP-based VOIP via dedicated X.21 Diginet services. In addition, within each office environment, the PBX was able to connect to existing GSM premicel devices and re-use Polycom IP and Kirk DECT phones.

Most of the additional functionality that WPBTS benefited from is included by default within the standard product package of the Far South Networks PBX. Key functionality included voicemail, voicemail-to-e-mail, call recording, auto-attendant, audio conferencing, call queues and budget trunk, to mention a few.

A key value-added feature is HTTP dialler, a Web application allowing the WPBTS contact centre to integrate PBX call flows from within the Communications Manager application, as a click-to-dial application.

"Vox Telecom, together with Far South Networks, ensured the implementation across all 12 sites was rolled out on time and on budget, and met all expectations that a new VOIP system could offer," Kevin de Smidt, IT Analyst, WPBTS.
