Police track activists using Facebook

Croatian police have detained and questioned Web activists who criticised the government, media and the opposition, reports Reuters.

Media said police had detained organisers of a group on Facebook, which called an anti-government rally in several towns, including the capital, Zagreb, for 5 December. The group has over 80 000 members.

"For the first time since the 1990s, Croatia is starting to enforce repression against its citizens who want to freely express their political stands," Nacional Weekly said.

Nokia unveils N97

Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone maker, unveiled the Nokia N97 yesterday, states Reuters.

The Finnish handset giant hopes the new model will inject new life into its line-up of N-series multimedia phones, a former trademark of cutting-edge technology that has seen few innovations lately.

"This is really the start of the new N-series... really kicking off the next wave," Jonas Geust, VP of Nokia's Devices unit, told Reuters in an interview. He added that touch-screens and full-qwerty keyboards would be key features in the new wave of products.

Hitachi, Intel partner

Hitachi and Intel will team up to develop a solid-state drive for servers, workstations and storage systems, reports Information Week.

The partnership makes Intel the sole supplier of NAND flash memory technology for Hitachi's upcoming line of high-end solid-state drives for corporate use.

The drives, which will be available with serial-attached SCSI and Fibre Channel interfaces, are scheduled for release in early 2010. Under the partnership, the companies will also work together in research and development.

Facebook connects to other sites

Facebook has unveiled a tool that allows users to see what their "friends" have been doing on other Web sites, says

Facebook Connect allows members to log on to other sites using their Facebook login details.

Privacy watchdogs are on alert over the new tool, which is being rolled out by the social networking giant with a number of partner Web sites in the coming weeks.
