The green light to a more sustainable business model

Johannesburg, 10 May 2017

Within today's challenging operating environment for businesses, sustainability and green credentials are crucial components for organisations to remain competitive in a world marked by slow growth, rising inequality, and mounting pressure to be more environmentally friendly, says Roy Alves, Country Manager at Axis Communications.

Sustainability is an important and natural part of Axis' operations, in order to contribute to a smarter and safer world. Axis works with suppliers, distributors and partners in order to minimise direct and indirect environmental impacts. This involves systematic work to ensure that product development, material choice, material origin, components and packaging meet quality and functionality requirements, while minimising environmental impacts.

Among other things, this includes using recycled material, reducing the number of product parts, choosing low-weight components, minimising material waste, optimising packaging, improving energy consumption efficiency in own operations and in the company's products.

Green goal

Axis' goal is to take sustainability into consideration in all business processes and to promote sustainable conduct in the entire value chain ranging from product development, manufacturing, distribution and sales shall occur in a sustainable way.

Axis works systematically to ensure that material choice and material origins meet quality and functionality requirements, while minimizing environmental impacts. This includes using recycled instead of newly produced plastic, minimising material waste, ensuring that only conflict-free minerals are used, ensuring that products do not contain any substances that are hazardous for people or the environment and phasing out health-impairing material.

Furthermore, about 95% of the material in Axis' products is recyclable or combustible in accordance with Swedish recycling standards.

Overall, about 64% of each camera is made with recycled plastic. Moreover, wall mounts and stands are made with recycled plastic. The plastic largely comes from CDs, water bottles and personal computers. Recycled plastic means that material, which is not renewable, is utilised, saving natural resources and reducing the climate impact, among other ways through lower CO2 emissions, compared to virgin plastic raw material.

All of these measures show that sustainability is an important and integrated part of Axis' operations and has great importance for the company's successful development.
