Minister Naledi Pandor's department hopes the ICT materials will improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.

As part of this year's Nelson Mandela International Day celebrations, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) donated ICT equipment to Tshwane Secondary School in the Pretoria CBD.

Mandela Day is commemorated each year on 18 July, Mandela's birthday, when South African citizens and people around the world are encouraged to give 67 minutes of their time towards a good cause.

According to the DST, minister Naledi Pandor donated computers, tablets and science laboratory equipment to the school in Pretoria as part of the department's Mandela Day outreach event.

The Tshwane Secondary School is a public secondary school that caters for approximately 373 learners. It offers a variety of subjects, including mathematics, science, tourism and commercial subjects. The school also offers Adult Basic Education and Training classes after hours.

In a statement, the DST says: "Materials have been donated by the department and its entities as a contribution to preserving the former president's legacy, but will also contribute to the department's drive to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science."
