Your company has no control over this...But there is a solution

Your company decided out with individual mobile or data packages and in with pooled services. This should make things easier and more cost-effective, right? Wrong! One thing companies do to try to mitigate costly excessive use is to assign users to pooled services. The presumption is that consumption will offset between users where some consume more and others less. The problem with voice or data pools is that it is very difficult to accurately estimate the usage of large groups and presents two distinct problems:

1. Overuse - Perception of voice and data pools creates a sense that a single user can utilise large volumes undetected, recurrently a single user can eat through more than 45% of pooled data in a billing cycle. Imagine 15 users doing the same. What happens when a pooled plan doesn't appropriately match usage? If pooled plans are not managed on a granular level, it's easy to incur massive overage charges.

2. Under-utilisation - To mitigate costly overages, organisations often purchase pools that are far larger than what is necessary. These pooled services are often acquired in crisis when individual plan usage is at its peak. It could be that for five months a company consumes 85% of the pool but for the remainder of the months, 65% is used thus paying 35% more than necessary.
