WNS South Africa nurtures its future employees

Cape Town, 26 Jul 2013

WNS Global Services SA (WNS SA) is pleased to announce that, on 25 July 2013, a new library extension was opened at the Yomelela Primary School, in Khayelitsha. The library upgrade is a development agreement between the school, the WNS Cares Foundation (WCF) and one of WNS SA's trusted business partners.

WNS became aware of the poor library conditions when employees visited the school to help upgrade the facilities. "Our volunteers were taken aback by the conditions of the classrooms and facilities, and recognised that we must do something further to help improve the school's environment," said Hema Jeaven, project manager of the initiative. As a result, the library renovation project was conceived as a way to not only help with the facilities, but to also help the kids develop their English reading and writing skills. For many of the local children, isiXhosa is their primary language, and their first formal exposure to English occurs only when they arrive at school in grade 1.

In addition to increasing the physical size of the library, the project added air conditioning, furniture, a reading area, three new computers and Internet access. These efforts were further supported by the staff of WNS SA, who donated books, winter woollies, and most importantly, their time to help paint and upgrade the classroom facilities. "I was happy to notice that so many of our employees readily gave their own free time without the need for company incentives or time off work. I'm proud that the culture of giving is so strong in WNS SA," said Johann Kunz, Managing Director of WNS SA.

WNS SA has a long history of social investment. When Fusion Outsourcing joined the WNS family in June 2012, its social upliftment strategy was aligned with the WCF's mission to educate, empower and enrich underprivileged youth.
