Global community for mobile content and commerce, the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF), has appointed two strategic advisors - Prins Mhlanga and Saleem Mobhani - as the trade organisation seeks to expand in growth markets such as the Middle East, India and Africa.

Mhlanga, who left his position as managing executive for digital at Vodacom earlier this year, will support MEF's Africa office, which was set up last year in association with Vodacom, with a pan-regional mission in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Mobhani, former vice-president for digital marketing and entertainment at carrier Du, has been appointed to support strategic growth and initiatives in the Middle East and India. MEF's Middle East Office was established in 2010, co-founded with Qatar operator Ooredoo.

The trade association says: "Mhlanga and Mobhani's wide-ranging mobile expertise in markets across the Middle East, India and Africa will strengthen MEF's regional strategy and roadmap for accelerating mobile content and commerce, and ensure the sustainability of the global mobile ecosystem."

Ecosystem build

The two mobile professionals join incumbent MEF strategic advisors Ingrid Silver (partner at Dentons), Gerrit Jan Konijnenberg (senior vice-president at Vodafone) and Roy Vella (MD of Vella Ventures).

MEF CEO Rimma Perelmuter notes the mobile content and commerce ecosystem continues to expand to include stakeholders from banking and brands through to payment, publishing and education. "MEF's international member base and active chapters in North America, LatAm, Asia and EMEA reflects this evolution."

Perelmuter says, as advisors, Mhlanga and Mobhani will play a vital role in MEF's heritage and aim to support businesses with locally relevant initiatives, business partnering and knowledge sharing.

MEF is a trade organisation for companies wishing to monetise their goods, services and digital products via the mobile.

Headquartered in London, MEF has operational chapters and offices in Africa, Asia, EMEA, Latin America, Middle East and North America. Established in 2000, the association is a member network, providing a voice for the foremost companies and entrepreneurs from across the mobile content and commerce value chain.
