SBS Africa Holdings implements Veritas Backup Exec

SBS Africa Holdings, an independent value-added reseller (VAR), has implemented VERITAS Backup Exec 8.0 as its national backup solution.

The 150 - user Novell network now utilises Backup Exec 8.0 to perform the backup and restore functions for its internal departments, while their technical engineers at the company are implementing the product at customer sites countrywide.

Previously we were a user of a competitor backup product for around four years. We never had the service we now receive," says Tristan Davies, senior customer engineer at SBS.

Introduced to the product while on StorageWorks training in Germany, Davies was quick to recognise its ease of use. "I`ve been setting up a number of SAN solutions for our clients, using primarily Compaq hardware, and we`re using Backup Exec in those environments without a problem," he says.

Although SBS initially used Backup Exec for its Microsoft Exchange e-mail solution and the SQL database implemented for the service department, this has recently been extended to include the Novell servers and all other critical data. "We were having problems performing our backups on the rest of our network, where we used the competitor backup product, so now we`re using Backup Exec for all the data our users generate and work with," says Davies.

SBS is redesigning its network around Windows 2000, which will include a new backup procedure. "That`s another reason we chose VERITAS, because of its ease of use with Microsoft and its back office products.

"The Backup Exec range of products offers a complete backup solution for mixed platform workgroups needing protection for Windows NT, as well as Novell NetWare environments. With the many available options, users can customise the backup solution to meet their network needs now and in the future," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software.
