Smartphone enthusiasts will now be able to get their hands on the latest Samsung Galaxy A-series devices, following the launch of three new handsets in that range.

The South Korean electronics manufacturer yesterday officially launched the Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72 during its “Galaxy Awesome Unpacked” event that was live-streamed on YouTube.

The launch comes as the smartphone market witnessed positive growth in the fourth quarter of 2020, with Samsung shipping 73.9 million devices during this period, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

Samsung says the new Galaxy A-series enables everyone to experience “awesome” technology at a price that is suitable to their needs.

According to the company, this latest A-series sets the bar “high” when it comes to camera quality, noting the phone cameras will allow users to create, communicate and express themselves.

In addition, the A-series will provide access to the wider Galaxy ecosystem of connected devices, such as Galaxy Buds Pro, Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy Tab.

“Samsung strives to give consumers what they want and need most. That’s why we set out with a vision for the Galaxy A-series to democratise Galaxy innovations for everyone,” says Dr TM Roh, president and head of mobile communications business, Samsung Electronics.

“The Galaxy A52, A52 5G and A72 encapsulate the Galaxy brand philosophy with cutting-edge innovations, services and features at an accessible price.”

Some of the new A-series features include water- and dust-resistance with an IP67, two-day battery life, 5G compatibility, a quad camera with 64MP high-resolution, and optical image stabilisation to ensure pictures and videos come out sharp and steady.

The devices also feature built-in Samsung Knox, which is the manufacturer’s defence-grade security system that safeguards personal information and data in real-time. In addition, the A52, A52 5G and A72 will support software upgrades for three generations, and regular security updates for a minimum of four years.

In terms of pricing, the A52 has a recommended retail price of €347 (R6 148). The A52 5G’s recommended retail price is €429 (R7 558), while the A72 is €449 (R7 910).

All three new smartphones will be available in four colours – violet, blue, black and white.
