3D Systems unveils 3D printing products

3D Systems will be using the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to demonstrate its Cube 3D consumer printer, 3D object creation apps and cubify.com 3D "create-and-make" online environment, The Verge reports.

The company will also be showing off its Geomagic-powered Kinect-to-Print app, which, like the company's mobile or tablet apps, allows users to create and print 3D objects with "colouring book simplicity".

“We invite all CES attendees to experience the full impact of Cubify.com live,” TCT Magazine quotes Rajeev Kulkarni, VP and GM, Consumer Solutions for 3D Systems, as saying.

“We expect Cubify to become the preferred destination for all kids and adults seeking to earn money by marketing their own 3D creations or by developing new apps for Cubify.”

According to PC World, sometime in the next few months, 3D Systems will start selling a new Cube 3D printer, priced at $1 299, that comes with a cartridge of plastic available in 10 colours.

The printer is 14 x 14 x 18 inches, weighs less than nine pounds, and can print about 10 to 12 "average size" parts, which Kulkarni says works out to be about $4 to $5 per part. When it's time to reorder a new cartridge, the cost is $50.
