Johannesburg, 08 Oct 2020

Global Computing and Telecoms (GCT), a 100% black-owned and women-empowered company, won the prestigious Microsoft Managing Director’s Partner of the Year for 2020 at the virtual local Microsoft Partner Awards on 30 September 2020.

Speaking at the awards, Microsoft South Africa Managing Director Lillian Barnard congratulated GCT on an outstanding year that saw the organisation as an entity grow its Microsoft competencies, employee certifications and overall staff complement to embrace the rapidly changing technological landscape in South Africa.

Despite being a relatively small organisation, GCT has attained 13 Gold Competencies and features in the top 10 Microsoft Partner list that has the most individuals certified in Microsoft Azure, Modern Workplace and Security.

Barnard also praised GCT for focusing equally on technology as well as the people that enabled the effective digital transformation. Special praise was also given to GCT, one of the few Microsoft FastTrack partners, for building up strong capabilities in adoption, change management and training. FastTrack is one of the flagship Microsoft programs to assist Microsoft customers to rapidly use and leverage their cloud investment, without any further investment.

Barnard further stated: “Global Computing and Telecoms has been an active participant in our Emerging Partner programme, and demonstrating clarity of purpose, dedication and tenacity with the objective of becoming a leader in deployment and implementation of cloud solutions for our customers.”

GCT’s Managing Director and founder Sello Mbuli thanked Microsoft for this prestigious award. Mbuli stated it had only been four years since the organisation had been founded, and despite it being a challenging industry, particularly for SMEs, that it was through God that the organisation has been successful. Mbuli mentioned that many similar-sized organisations were struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic and South Africa’s current economic climate.

Mbuli further said: “I must say, when I left Microsoft, I was going to fly with the eagles. Many of the partners who have received these awards are more than 16 years old and here we are receiving this award after four years.”

Mbuli praised God and the GCT team for entrusting him with his leadership and the customers who have put their faith in the organisation in delivering innovative and effective solutions since its inception.
