White paper: Today's top five data protection challenges

Johannesburg, 26 Feb 2019
Today's top five data protection challenges.
Today's top five data protection challenges.

There are many challenges facing data centre managers and IT professionals today. Some of the most difficult to deal with lie in the area of data protection: how exactly do you deal with rampant data growth? How do you protect virtualised, converged and hyper-converged environments? And how do you stay in control of data stored in the cloud?

IT departments today face many challenges. Trends such as mobility, cloud computing, social media and big data continue to take data centre infrastructure in new directions. This is particularly true when it comes to managing, protecting and analysing data. These core functions are becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

As data increasingly resides on-premises and off-premises, in legacy applications and cloud services, traditional data protection and management paradigms have failed to keep up. Not being application-aware, they struggle to safeguard information that can be recovered consistently. Business data and the backup records for it, for example, are either missing, incomplete or spread across multiple silos. As a result, it can be difficult to determine when the last backup took place, what files are backed up, and what information continues to be unprotected. Due to these challenges and many others, organisations are demanding more from data protection and management technologies.
