Internet technology can replace fax lines

It is general knowledge that Telkom is busy with a process to remove copper landlines, necessitated by several reasons. However, this also means users who have fax lines will lose the ability to send and receive faxes using their standard fax machines. 

Pangea Communications, which has been offering faxing technology in South Africa for 18 years, has recognised this problem, and has launched a consumer-facing solution to address this.

Easyfax is aimed at offering a customer an analogue terminal adapter (ATA), which connects to the fax machine and in turn connects to any Internet network, whether 3G, WiFi, fibre or even satellite. 

Since Easyfax supports number porting, users still retain their fax number, and as local and national faxes can be sent for free to these destinations, users can expect a savings on their fax bill.

The ATA is a small plug-and-play device (pictured) with no set-up required, and will work within minutes. Users also have access to an online portal to view their bills in real-time, and receive and view their faxes, thus a managed solution is offered. Anche Botha, owner of Easyfax, is excited that users can still continue to use their fax machines, albeit now across the Internet and with real cost savings.
