India gets labour management system

The Maharashtra government's Labour Department, in India, has designed a labour ICT management system in a public-private partnership, The Hindu Business Line reports.

“The pilot project of the system, called 'Mahashramm', has successfully been completed and we are rolling it out in other parts of the state,” says labour principal secretary Kavita Gupta.

“The system is a win-win situation for industries and labour, as it interlinks industries, shops and establishments, construction contractors and other businesses, by providing financial inclusion and labour registration,” explains Gupta.

IBN Live says workers will be registered and their biometric data captured as part of the project, developed in association with Glodyne.

Gupta says that, at the time of their registration, the data regarding the nature of the workers, their employer, and their skill-set would also be captured.

My Iris quotes Annand Sarnaaik, Glodyne chairman and MD, as saying: “Mahashramm is a benchmark project to empower all stakeholders - be it the employer, labour force and the government in the country, with a system that is robust and effective.”
