Virtual servers simplify disaster recovery

Disaster recovery planning could be simplified considerably if a business embraces server virtualisation, an expert has stated, reports Codestone.

According to Bill Bradford, SUNHELP.org's senior systems administrator, virtual machines are 'mirrored' to other parts of the world.

This, he stated, means that if a disaster or emergency takes place, a company's critical systems can be retrieved in tact, thereby aiding business continuity.

“I see virtualisation making fewer problems for disaster recovery,” Bradford commented. However, he said businesses must still make sure they are adequately prepared for such an eventuality, as staff need to know how to operate virtual machines and understand how they differ from physical boxes.

According to Global Gold, virtual servers represent an important disaster recovery solution, which can help business reduce their losses in the event of an unexpected incident.

Should a company be hit by fire, flood, theft or some other disaster, the use of virtual servers can prove to be highly beneficial.

When a company invests in virtual servers, it gains the ability to recover any data stored on a different physical server.
