Software, sales and data engineers are some of the most promising jobs this year.

Professional social network LinkedIn has released a list of the 20 most promising jobs in 2017, with more than half tech-related.

The list highlights jobs with high median salaries, strong job openings and year-over-year growth, and the jobs most likely to lead to a promotion or advancement. The data was collected from the millions of US profiles on the site.

Daniel Shapero, LinkedIn VP of talent solutions and careers, says in a blog post the list was released to help users make "more informed career decisions" if thinking of changing jobs.

Shapero says job-hopping has become more and more common in the last two decades.

"Based on our research, we know that the top reasons people change jobs is to pursue a stronger career path, make more money or access more opportunities within their organisation," he says.
