Integrated ICT and connectivity provider Vox has introduced a video conferencing solution specifically designed for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and virtual workforces that need to stay connected to partners, suppliers and customers.

The company says VoxAir is a Web browser-based video conferencing solution, ideally suited to organisations that want to take a bold step beyond just voice in a cost-effective manner. Pricing is provided per unique contact number which can accommodate between four and 12 concurrent participants at any time, says Vox.

"It was important to ensure that our solution was vendor independent - enabling integration and use across any formal conferencing equipment anywhere in the world, without the need to invest in costly video conferencing bridge equipment," explains Mauritz van Wyk, senior product manager: Visual Communications at Vox.

VoxAir has been designed to work in conjunction with all video conferencing platforms, including the large-scale hardware-driven systems typically found in large enterprise businesses, says Vox. The solution is ideal for the mobile workforce, can be used on laptops, desktops and mobile devices for non-office bound employees, it adds.

"Video conferencing has become a buzzword - everybody wants to try it out. Locally, one of the biggest inhibitors of video conferencing adoption was connectivity. This has largely been overcome, but business owners do not want to spend thousands on hardware for a single boardroom to enable the technology in their business," says Van Wyk.

According to Transparency Market Research, the video conference market is largely driven by the growing globalisation of business organisations, coupled by the need for scalable communication methods. A rising need to lower capital expenditure and operational costs has led to the increasing adoption of managed and cloud-based video conferencing solutions in SMEs, it adds.

The high initial investment required for video conferencing had till recently kept it out of reach from most small and medium-scale enterprises, the market research firm says. This is rapidly changing with the advent of cloud-based video conferencing.

While larger companies still might prefer to maintain in-house video conferencing practices, SMEs can now easily avail these services from players that offer the cloud-based options, it adds. This has opened the doors for not only a large number of SMEs towards video conferencing, but also increased the client base for the companies that provide video conferencing services, concludes the research firm.
