BT has announced a new global initiative, aimed at empowering CIOs and helping them with their digital transformation efforts.

The initiative, called The Digital Possible, will bring new and innovative digital services to the market, building on insight from its most recent research, says BT.

Also, the company says it will leverage its recent EE acquisition to offer real time big data analysis capabilities, further expansion of cloud connectivity and additional software defined networks and consultancy capabilities.

"The pace of digital change is creating new opportunities for our customers and those opportunities require quick responses," says Luis Alvarez, CEO of BT Global Services.

He points out the role of the digital CIO is one of the most demanding in business - they need to be strategic, creative, growth-minded and cost-conscious.

"They have to understand technology and people, and balance control and safety with enablement and speed. They are becoming the pioneers of change. To be successful, they now require strategic partnerships within and beyond their organisation.

"We are well placed to be their digital enabler. We are committing to accelerate investments in our Cloud of Clouds portfolio to help them fully uncover and realise their own 'Digital Possible'."

Jo Scarlett, chief sales and marketing officer at BT Global Services, says everyone is working out their unique approach of adapting in this digital era. The smartest are already using technology in new and creative ways to transform their business, she adds.

Without exception, every CIO considers the digitisation of business to be a personal priority - whether it's disruptive new revenue streams, digital elements to customer experience, or the transformation of internal processes, says Scarlett.

She points the smartest CIOs are bridging the gap between business and technology, and responding to both employees' and customers' expectations simultaneously.

According to the The BT CIO report 2016 - the digital CIO, CIOs are becoming ever more central to the boardroom and overall business strategy.

The creative use of technology is absolutely accepted as a differentiator, not just in transforming costs or efficiency, but in improving customer experience and enabling disruptive growth, it adds.

The report is based on interviews with 1 030 CIOs around the world about how their role has evolved since BT's last report in 2014.
