Matric learners who achieved exceptional academic records will be rewarded with a bursary to take care of varsity tuition fees.

The MTN SA Foundation plans to reward top performing matrics with bursaries and laptops to further their studies as well as get access to technological tools.

In a statement, the mobile operator says the bursaries will cover registration, tuition, accommodation, books, pocket money and a top-up allowance.

The foundation intends to distribute 18 bursaries and 200 laptops in total. The bursaries will be awarded to the top two performing matric learners in each province selected by the provincial education department.

"MTN is cognisant of the socio-economic conditions that hamper academically gifted learners from furthering their studies. This gesture provides a lifeline to these students, providing them with hope for the future and an opportunity to break the vicious cycle of poverty and reach for their dreams," says Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, GM of the MTN SA Foundation.

"The exceptional academic achievements of these learners are indicative of what hard work and focus can achieve.

"The support from the foundation is a part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring we make a positive difference in the communities we operate in, and contribute positively to developing a cadre of learners that will contribute to the growth and development of our economy," says Mtunzi-Hairwadzi.
