Project Isizwe will provide free WiFi access during the two-week SONA period.

Guests and journalists attending the 2017 State of the Nation Address (SONA) will connect to the Internet free of charge within the Parliamentary precinct during tonight's proceedings.

According to a statement, Project Isizwe will provide free high-speed WiFi in Parliament for SONA.

Peter Adolphs, marketing manager at Project Isizwe, says several WiFi hotspots have been rolled out at strategic points within the precinct to promote a free flow of information during the two-week SONA period.

During this time, content that is relevant to SONA will be provided, including various video materials, says Adolphs.

"I think traditionally, this kind of WiFi access isn't usually the norm and we want to make the movement and freedom of information on the hot topic, and the ability to be able to connect and get the information out as fast as possible, hence we are providing this."

He adds: "In partnership with GCIS, GovChat, Project Isizwe, Neotel and hardware provider Ruckus, we will provide an unrestricted, network provider for all participants of SONA, including press, with a very fast 20MB line. They will have full access to fast Internet and we think it is going to be a very exciting partnership going forward."

Project Isizwe is the non-profit organisation that has helped deploy WiFi hotspots in public spaces in the City of Tshwane. Project Isizwe has partnered with Tshwane to provide 1 050 WiFi hotspots around the city.
