Telkom customers should expect delays in the delivery of statements amid a post office strike.

Telkom has issued a statement warning customers that industrial action at the South African Post Office is affecting postal services and the delivery of mail, including Telkom account statements.

The company says customers who receive their account statements via post can expect a delay in the delivery of these. It has advised customers to contact Telkom to get details of their outstanding balances and payment amounts due.

The easiest means of obtaining account balances, says Telkom, is via its balance enquiry SMS system. Customers should send an SMS with their 10-digit Telkom landline telephone number, followed by a space and the account-holder's ID number, from a mobile phone to 012 321 0210.

"A return SMS containing the current balance, amount due, the due date of payment, last recorded payment and date of last payment received will then be sent to the mobile phone."

Customers can also view their account balance on the Telkom app for iPad and Android devices. The Telkom app is available for free download from the Apple app store and an Android version of the app can be downloaded from the Google Play store.
