Western Digital launches new solutions at CES 2018

American data storage company Western Digital has launched an array of new solutions at Consumer Electronics Show 2018 (CES 2018), including what it claims to be the world's smallest high-capacity USB drive.

CES 2018 is a week-long consumer technologies conference currently underway in Las Vegas, US. The show boasts close to 4 000 exhibiting companies,

Sold under both the SanDisk and WD brands, the one terabyte USB device is said to be Type-C flash solution that can save large amounts of content in one form, reducing the need for external hard drives. One terabyte is equal to 1 000 GB meaning one terabyte USB device would render to a thousand 1GB USB disks. According to Wikipedia, the average USB storage is 64GB.

Although 1TB USB devices are available with the first one being initially unveiled at the 2013 CES, it is less frequently available.

The company also launched the SanDisk Ultra Fit, a pocket size 256GB USB flash drive that is said to transfer files at an average 130MB per second read speed and works with both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.

"It comes in various prices and capacities, ranging from $22 for the 16GB model and up to $150 for the 256GB model. There's also a 1TB prototype model of the Ultra Fit although there is no definite information on an official launch," said the company.

Western Digital's further unveiled a two new portable SSDs, the My Passport Wireless SSD, which features one-touch card copy to enable editing and sharing of content out in the field as well as the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD which has transfers of up to 550MB/s and is also weather resistant.
