South African software company JMR Software has successfully concluded a lb1 million (approximately R16 million) contract to provide data migration services to Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society, one of the UK`s leading suppliers of insurance and financial services.
The contract was part of an original lb8 million project undertaken by Sapiens in the UK to implement a Web-enabled insurance administration solution, which replaced an outdated suite of life insurance administration systems involving over 3.5 million life insurance policies.
"The existing systems were proving expensive to maintain and were unable to support Liverpool Victoria`s desired levels of customer service," said Charles Mattick, Director of JMR Software, which represents Sapiens rapid application development (RAD) technologies and methodologies in SA.
The Sapiens two-step solution, which was completed in just 21 months, involved the migration of all existing data to an IBM, Web-enabled environment, and the development of a fully integrated, dynamic life insurance administration application known as LifeLite.
According to Mattick, the decision to award JMR the contract, which involved seven of its programmers/contractors/staff was based on its previous track record with large financial services projects in SA.
"Because we are a South African-based company, we could also provide some cost advantages."
The JMR component of the project, involved transferring data from seven disparate systems, and integrating it onto a normalised DB2 database and 3270 IBM mainframe.
Sapiens`s eMerge solution will help enable Liverpool Victoria to streamline its business processes. The new solution will also offer one-stop process execution, reduced training needs and costs, greater transactional throughput, better management information, improved reliability and improved financial control.
Commenting on the project, Peter Munday, Head of Customer Services (Life) and Project Sponsor, said: "We selected Sapiens for this mission-critical project because of its proven ability to develop the highest calibre of large scale, Web-enabled systems quickly and cost-effectively. We are equally impressed with the expertise and dedication of the Sapiens project team, and their understanding of our critical business needs."
