Johannesburg, 31 Jan 2011

The new MesaGeo 3G rugged notepad is now ready for shipping. This latest addition to the world's first rugged notepad offers a 3G GSM cellular data modem, which provides real-time wireless connectivity while working in the field. The Mesa Geo 3G recently completed PTCRB cellular network device certification, which ensures compliance within PTCRB operator networks.

The Mesa Rugged Notepad is the latest addition to Juniper Systems' complete line-up of rugged handheld computers. The Mesa provides a unique platform for dedicated field data collection applications that can withstand the most extreme outdoor environments.

“The Mesa has all the advantages of a handheld, plus the advantages of a tablet PC, without the disadvantages of either,” said David Dean, President of Electronic Data Solutions. The Mesa is the world's first Juniper Rugged notepad, featuring the biggest screen available on a Windows Mobile rugged handheld computer. In addition to the large 5.7-inch active viewing display, the Mesa's compact and lightweight design provides the comfortable feel of a handheld computer.

As mentioned, the Mesa Rugged Notepad is available in three models: Standard, Geo, & Geo 3G. The Standard Mesa features WiFi and Bluetooth wireless technology, while the Geo model adds 2-5 metre accuracy GPS and a 3.2MP camera enhanced with Juniper Geotagging (the ability to embed and emboss photos with date, time and GPS position). The Geo 3G model includes camera, GPS, and a 3G GSM data modem for increased speed and connectivity capabilities. The Mesa is available in US and international versions of each model.

Like other Juniper Systems' rugged handheld computers, the Mesa is built to survive the toughest environments. It is built to IP67 standards, making it fully waterproof and dustproof, and tested to MIL-STD-810G standards for water, humidity, sand and dust, vibration, altitude, shock, and temperature. Its rugged magnesium and plastic chassis protects the Mesa from up to four foot drops onto concrete. In addition, the Mesa has the ability to accommodate dual batteries to give up to 16 hours of operation in the field, and is warm swappable. The Mesa is available in three standard colours, orange, grey and military green.

Unique to the Mesa is its one-of-a-kind Juniper Systems home screen. This customisable home screen puts the most-used device functions in a finger-friendly on-screen dashboard. Features include user-defined shortcuts and 11 screen gadgets for controlling wireless connections, GPS, texting, e-mail, calendar, and power functions.
